HEERF I – CORONAVIRUS AID, RELIEF, AND ECONOMIC SECURITY ACT of 2020 (CARES ACT)
Kettering University signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement document under Section 18004(a)(1) of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Securities Act (CARES) to provide Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF). Fifty percent of the funds received under the CRRSAA were used to provide emergency grants to students.
The University received $728,517.00 in funding from the U. S. Department of Education to award as emergency financial aid grants to students. All HEERF I funds have been distributed. 570 awards were made to 419 students as emergency financial aid grants.
Kettering University students applied for funds through an application process. Students who were enrolled in the Spring 2020 quarter and who had filed a 2019-2020 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or were eligible to file a FAFSA were notified of the application process via their Kettering University email account. The estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 is 1,896.
As part of the application, students provided a statement describing the COVID-19 circumstances they were facing, the requested funding amount and how the requested funds were to be used. Students itemized and documented their costs, loss of income, or unexpected financial challenges specific to the COVID-19 crisis.
Completed applications were reviewed by a selection committee and award amounts were made up to $2,000 per eligible applicant. Recipients were informed that funds could be used for COVID-related expenses such as food, housing, health care and course-related materials/technology.
HEERF II -- CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE AND RELIEF SUPPLEMENTAL APPROPRIATIONS ACT of 2021 (CRRSAA).
Kettering University signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement document under Section 18004(a)(1) of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Securities Act (CARES) to provide Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF). This agreement also applies to the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF III) funds under Section 314(a)(1) of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA).
